One of the first markets to suffer in a recession is the luxury items like antiques. Most people don't have much disposable income anymore and they need what they do have to buy necessities and pay their bills. Antiques and collectibles are NOT necessities. You might check with an online antique site such as www.kovels.com and see what the "hot" collectibles are right now. On top of this, the market is flooded with everyone is clearing out their "clutter" to try and scrape a few bucks together. Ebay has virtually put the kibosh on garage sales. Why waste expensive gas driving around to sales when you can shop online and have it delivered to your residence? I can tell you that even fifteen years ago I used to spend all weekend going around to garage and tag sales. The last few years I haven't been to any! Other than that, you may just be stuck with a houseful of things nobody wants right now. You might want to wait a while and see if the economy recovers, then try to have your sale.
